Description

Campers with motorhomes, caravans and smaller tents can pitch safely on our peaceful 15 pitch touring site, where there are sweeping views over the Mawddach Estuary and surrounding mountains and easy access to the washing facilities and showers.

In peak season tent campers can also pitch on our lower camping fields in sheltered glades, secret meadows or high on a bluff overlooking the estuary.

The lower camping fields suit those looking for a back to nature camping experience who don't mind a long, uphill walk to the facilities on our touring site. The meadows and wild woods are crossed by streams and dry stone walls and campers are surrounded by unspoilt scenery and wildlife. A great camping experience for grown ups with a spirit of adventure and families with older children.

Local Attractions

Take a steam train up a mountain or swing through the trees on a rope adventure - Snowdonia National Park and North / Mid Wales offer all sorts of memorable experiences within easy reach of Graig Wen. Car sick? Leave the roads behind and explore on foot, bike, train or boat. Just a few minutes from Graig Wen you can go horse-riding on the beach, mountain biking at Coed-y-Brenin, fishing from the sea or Cregennan Lakes, sailing or kayaking.

Sarah and John can provide you with more information and guides about the local area. If you are interested in quirkier attractions such as Slate Modern or the rabbit village, just ask us…

Our top tips for days out:
Cycle the flat water-side Mawddach Trail to the George III pub, Fairbourne's blue flag beaches, shops and steam railway
Stroll over Barmouth's iconic bridge for fish and chips, ice cream and bargain-hunting. Catch Emily's ferry back to Fairbourne
Climb up Arthog waterfalls and on up to Cadair Idris mountain
Be inspired towards a greener way of life at the Centre for Alternative Technology or sail through underground caverns at King Arthur's Labyrinth – both at Corris
Visit Portmeirion – the Italianate fantasy village made famous in The Prisoner cult TV show
Play traditional Welsh instruments – no talent required! – at the interactive displays at Ty Siamas, Dolgellau's new National Centre for Welsh Folk Music
Or just sit on our terrace, sipping a drink and watching the woodpeckers.

Dolgellau (pronounced Dol-geth-lie) is an attractive market town 5 miles from Graig Wen. Here you'll find excellent independent shops, a monthly farmer's market (every 3rd Sunday) plus a range of both traditional and modern cafes, restaurants and pubs. Gourmets should make a date with nearby Machynlleth's Wednesday market and stylish craft shops.

Location

Turn off A470 Dolgellau bypass, and take A493 signposted Tywyn/Fairbourne. Approx 5 miles from Dolgellau and 1 mile BEFORE Arthog village look out for solitary post-box on right hand-side. Graig Wen is approx 200 yards further on brow of slight hill on right hand side.

Larger caravans and motorhomes should approach from Dolgellau direction as left turn from Fairbourne direction difficult.

Ignore Sat Nav if using post code! It takes you a couple of miles too far to Morfa Mawddach railway station.
